ELLA BUDURUWAGALA RESERVE TISSAMAHARAMA
Leave to Tissamaharama En route visit Buduruwagala the seven colossal figures carved out of a rock face at Buduruwagala are reached by a side road to the west, five kilometres south of Wellawaya, on the road to Tissa. The rock itself resembles a kneeling elephant with its head bowed and the end of the folded trunk in its mouth. Neither chronicles nor stone inscriptions provide any information on the exact period of these east-facing statues. However, it has been determined that they date back to the 10th Century and the Mahayana Buddhist Doctrine, and belong to the latter period of the Anuradhapura Kingdom. The name Buduruwagala means "stone images of the Buddha," and at 51 feet here stands the tallest in Sri Lanka and perhaps in the world, since the Bamiyan figures no longer exist in Afghanistan. PM Safari in Yala Park by jeep the Elephant is undoubtedly the best-known attraction at Yala, seen in small & large herds. Herds of spotted deer are seen all over the park. Monkeys-the pinkish rhesus and the Grey-faced Langur monkey live and play on the treetops and the ground below. Wild buffalo & wild boar could give you a good surprise & the sight of a leopard sunning itself or drinking water at a water hole could be memorable experience. The peacock is easily the most famous of the birds at Yala. The painted stork, many varieties of heron, the spoonbill, the bee-eater, parakeets, kingfisher & woodpecker are some of the birds can be seen in the park. Proceed to Tissamaharama. Overnight stay at hotel (If Yala is closed for some period during September October for mating period the Bundala reserve will be visited)

TISSAMAHARAMA KATARAGAMA GALLE BEACH
Morning excursion to Kataragama is a fast developing township in the deep south of Sri Lanka. But in ancient days it was only a small village. It is one of the 16 principal places of Buddhist Pilgrimage to be visited. Kataragama is famous for the Hindu Shrine (Devale) and Dageba (Buddhist Pagoda - Kirivehera). Lord Buddha and his third and the last visit to Sri Lanka were believed to have met the King Mahasena who ruled over the Kataragama area in B.C.580. The Kirivehera Dageba which stands in close proximity to the Devale was built by the King Mahasena. According to the legend, the King met the Lord Buddha and listen to the Buddha’s discourse and as a token of gratitude, the Dageba was built on that exact spot where it now stands. Proceed to the hotel in the Beach. En-route visit Weligama Stilt Fisherman, Dutch Fort, museum & Church. Dutch Fort: Built in 1663, the fort still retains the atmosphere and charm of Dutch days. Many old Dutch buildings are still intact inside the fort. The best way to see the fort is by walking around at the time of sunset. Dutch Museum: The Dutch Museum which is housed in a restored Dutch mansion of the time, contains paintings, prints, documents, furniture and ceramics from the Dutch colonial era. Dutch Reformed Church: Built by a Dutch Army officer at the site of a previous Portuguese church and completed in 1754 the church is situated close to the new entrance to the fort. The church contains record of marriages since 1748 and baptism from 1678.
